Amplified History Since 2014
Heilung was formed in 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, by vocalist Kai Uwe Faust and producer Christopher Juul. The group, which incorporates members from Denmark, Norway, and Germany, describes its sound as “amplified history from early medieval northern Europe”. The band’s music frequently draws upon runic inscriptions and texts from the Iron and Viking Ages, utilizing instruments such as drums, bones, and spears to create a visceral, shamanic experience.
Maria Franz, a singer known for her work with the progressive rock band Euzen, joined the project in 2015, initially as a session vocalist before becoming an official member. The band gained significant recognition following the release of their debut album, “Ofnir”, and their live recording “Lifa”. Their discography also includes the 2022 studio album “Drif”, which achieved chart success in Germany and Austria. Throughout their career, the band has contributed to various media projects, including the soundtrack for the video game “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II” and the television series “Vikings”.
